Having a baby in a foreign country can feel daunting, especially when you’re navigating an unfamiliar healthcare system and building a new life far from home. With more than a decade of experience supporting families as a birth and postpartum doula in New York, I understand how meaningful—and sometimes overwhelming—it can be to start your family in a new country. You don’t have to navigate it alone. As a birth and postpartum doula, I’m here to help you find the place and provider where you feel most comfortable giving birth, and to offer compassionate, personalized support throughout your journey. Once your baby arrives, I can continue to support you as a postpartum doula and lactation specialist, helping you feel more confident and cared for during those tender early weeks.
What I offer
Prenatal classes
My classes will help you feel more prepared and confident for labor, birth, and the early weeks with your baby.
- Labor and birth: stages of labor, what to expect, when to go to the hospital or birth center, and common interventions.
- Comfort and coping techniques: breathing, movement, positioning, massage, relaxation, and other ways to manage labor.
- Birth options: vaginal birth, cesarean birth, induction, epidurals, and other pain-relief options.
- Partner support: practical ways a partner or support person can help during labor and birth.
- Postpartum recovery: physical and emotional changes, rest, support, and adjustment to parenthood.
- Planning and decision-making: creating a birth preferences plan and learning how to communicate with your healthcare team.
I’ll help you understand the local maternity system, choose a provider or birth setting, prepare questions for appointments.
Birth doula services
As your birth doula, I will be there from the time of hire until after you birthed your baby. During our time together we will have one virtual prenatal visit, 2 in-person prenatal and one postpartum visits, plus continuous support during labor.
During our prenatal visits, we will cover what’s most important to you while you’re preparing for the birth of your baby, during and after birth. We’ll talk about:
• things to do at home during early labor before going to the hospital
• when to go to the hospital (using the 5-1-1 rule). What is timing if water breaks and no contractions?
• things to do at the hospital during active labor and pushing
• what to pack in your hospital bag
• breathing techniques
• spinning babies exercises
• relaxation tracks and apps to listen to
• we will work on your birth preferences
• we’ll talk and practice laboring and pushing positions
• partner support guide
Postpartum doula services
As a postpartum doula, during our time together I will help you understand what new babies – and new moms – truly need. I will offer you soothing techniques, breastfeeding or bottle feeding support, basic newborn care and explain normal newborn behavior, including tips and tricks to make your life easier in the first few months after giving birth.
I provide help and information with emotional and physical recovery from birth and mother-baby bonding. I will also give lactation advice or refer you to a lactation specialist (CLC or IBCLC) if needed. I will help you get to know your baby and feel confident about yourself around them. I will help you with whatever you need help with around your baby. I will come as many days as you need me.
As an expectant first time parent, you might often wonder how life will be with a newborn. I can help you prepare for the immediate postpartum period by teaching you the basics of newborn care: breastfeeding, bottle feeding, diapering, swaddling, babywearing and anything else you need to learn more about. I will normalize newborn behavior, and point you to the appropriate resources, such as breastfeeding class, baby-mama groups, etc.
